What is the activity level on Greek Trails tours? Are Greek Trails scheduled trips strenuous?
Our programs are of a potentially moderately rigorous nature, but definitely not strenuous. Even though some scattered ferry travel is included in the packages, you will not feel overwhelmed by the quantity of travel. Our trips are not a forced march and allow for plenty of free time. Scheduled activities are not mandatory, except, of course, for transfers between islands. In order to fully enjoy the experience, travelers must be physically able to endure warm temperatures, walk up and down sleep stairs at the island villages and/or island hotels, especially on Santorini, and travel for extended periods by ferry. On any schedules Greek Trails trip, there are between 3 to 4 ferry transfers on comfortable, large, modern ferries.

When filling out your Greek Trails Customized Trip Questionnaire we would strongly advise that you mention your concern towards any accessibility issues in the comments section, so the Greek Trails consultant that plans your itinerary can make appropriate adjustments and recommendations.

When is the best time of year to visit Greek islands?
June through September is considered the high season, with average temperatures that allow swimming in the Aegean. May and October are also excellent months to travel to the Greek islands and offer an even greater sense of seclusion and escape. The most popular time of visit is early to mid-August, when the islands tend to be very busy with Greek and European visitors.
Prices for the tours vary by month. Why?
With little variation, Greek summer conditions last from May to October. The July and August timeframe is the high season for Greek travelers, and the increased demand for services raises the pricing of our suppliers.
Are visas required for travel to Greece?
Each traveler should be in possession of a valid, signed passport that will remain valid for at least three months beyond the completion of your trip. European Union travelers can travel to Greece with their ID. U.S. citizens do not require a vise for Greece. Citizens of other countries should contact Greek Trails, the Greek Consulate or Embassy, or their travel agent for specific details on visa requirements.
Are vaccinations required for travel from the United States to Greece?
Even though it is unlikely that you will need a vaccination for traveling to Greece, we suggest that you check with the U.S. National Center for Infectious Diseases.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia operates a 24-hour recorded “International Travelers’ Information Line” at 877-394-8747. You can also dial 888-232-3299 and follow the prompts for a faxed copy of available information; or visit the CDC website at www.cdc.gov for the most up-to-date information. Your local Public Health Department may also have useful information.

Please Let Us Know: If you have a physical disability or require frequent or on-going medical attention, please advise Greek Trails of your health situation at the time of your book or at the onset of any new condition prior to your departure.

Should I purchase travel Insurance?

Is English widely spoken in Greece or will it all be Greek to me?
As tourism is an important aspect of the Greek economy and with a flourishing service sector, English is spoken throughout the major tourism areas. All Greek Trails staff, guides and affiliates are also fluent in English. However please note that if you are venturing off to smaller villages, especially on the islands, you may find communicating with the locals a bit more of a challenge. Additionally, as most road signs and road names throughout Greece are also displayed in English, with the help of your maps (which you will receive in your Greek Trails package) you should be able to find your way around.
What is the currency in Greece?
Greece is another one of several European countries that uses the Euro as currency. You can either use cash, that you can withdraw from the numerous ATM machines, that can easily be found in any of the cities/islands in Greece, or just use your debit / credit card for transactions.

Greek banks have limited hours; Monday-Thursday from 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM and Friday from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Some branches are open extra hours in the evenings and on Saturday mornings. It’s important to bring your passport for verification purposes. Larger hotels, travel agencies and “authorized” bank agents will exchange money, but please keep in mind that there will be charged extra fees and commissions.

What accommodations are used for Greek Trails tours?
Greek Trails uses hotels after careful selection, hotels that can provide you the best possible combination of high services, and best prices in each category. Excellent quality of accommodation, location, service and hotel management are all evaluated in choosing a hotel partner. Whenever overnight ferries are used, you will travel comfortably on double cabins. Premium class cabins include bunk beds and a bathroom with shower.
Do all hotels in Greece have Non-Smoking rooms?
Some of the hotels included in the Greek Trails portfolio have specific nonsmoking rooms; however, some boutique hotels do not have specific non-smoking rooms since they are small establishments with a limited amount of rooms. If non-smoking rooms are requested, the hotels will be informed so that the rooms are cleaned to a non-smoking standard.
What transportation means are used for transfers between the islands?
Greek Trails uses comfortable, large, modern commercial ferries for transfers between the islands, with the exception of the trip to Spetses, where we use a modern catamaran. We also use modern high-speed boats of hydrofoils when there are no ferries available for the specific route of transfer. It has been our experience that guests take special joy in island hopping and the unique ferry ride experience. For air travel to and from the islands, Greek Trails partners with Aegean Airlines – Greece’s National Airline – guaranteed for the safest flights and the best services you can have on board.
With your van or bus transportation, how many people are seated per vehicle?
Greek Trails does not crowd passengers into vehicles. All the vehicles for transfers are selected to have a capacity larger than the group, providing ample personal space or space for handbags. The size of hotel cars or vans transporting you from and to the hotels varies by destination. All the vehicles we use are modern and fully air-conditioned.
